Introduction

SIDEY is one of Scotland’s market leaders in the manufacture and installation of Double Glazed Windows, Doors and Conservatories and has been in business for over 70 years. In 1998 we recognised that improvements to our business systems' were needed to support expanding business levels.

In particular it was critical that a system was found that integrated our Accounting procedures with the unique requirements of our Sales, Design and Manufacturing processes. A consultant, recommended by the Scottish Development Agency, spent a number of months preparing a report which confirmed that our requirements could not be met by “off the shelf” packages but failed to provide clear recommendations or a secure development path. Fortunately we were introduced to INFORMIT SYSTEMS who responded quickly to our enquiry and produced a detailed and costed recommendation after two visits. They suggested a fully customised solution based on the flexibility provided by the SAGE Line 100 Accounts package.

New modules were proposed to address the particular requirements of our business and INFORMIT assisted us in obtaining the appropriate grant aid for these developments.
We were cautious of the impact that a completely new system would have on our administration and proceeded with a two phase implementation. INFORMIT immediately installed the Line 100 Accounts system and with minimal training from them we saw benefits in the time taken to process the month end accounts. After a bedding period INFORMIT commenced on the substantial task of developing the modules that our business required. These included:

A common user interface to the new modules and SAGE Line 100 Accounts.

A personnel system, encompassing comprehensive user security for the new system.

An Enquiry/Quotation and Sales Order processing module that embedded the discrete requirements for our wide range of products. This module provides a single screen enquiry for each contract facilitating drilldowns and links to manufacturing, purchase and accounts details.

A manufacturing module which INFORMIT linked to our Window design software, allowing the automated transfer of material, cost and resource information. The manufacturing suite includes multi shop scheduling, time sheet entry and installation team scheduling.

A Purchase Order processing system linked to the Sales module.

Invoice Registers for Sales and Purchase Ledgers.

As well as these main requirements we have called on INFORMIT to develop peripheral areas:

Marketing functions linked to Mail Merge, Fax and Email facilities.

Customer Care and Quality Control functions including Snagging, Complaints, and Non-Conformance reporting and management.

Additional Accounts functionality with Credit Control and powerful new Ledger enquiries.

A flexible multi user contract diary.

In our initial discussions INFORMIT convinced us that their background in Management and Engineering would enable them to interpret our requirements accurately and provide a comprehensive integrated solution, which would be both affordable and amendable. They have a complete understanding of the SAGE Line 100 accounts package, which allows them to provide a solution that is seamless in its operation.

We now use INFORMIT for our hardware, network, Email and remote access support as well as continuing to consult them on matters of IT development. We receive prompt attention to enquiries and we have not come across any problem that they have been unable to resolve. They are a Sage Solution Centre in the real sense of the words.
